Privacy Policy
Your data's safety is our priority.
At Studva, we want you to work with peace of mind. Our community includes many students — some of them minors — so we take protecting your privacy very seriously, for everyone.
A 100% French-made app
Studva is built in France by studioGNT, its publisher (see the legal notice). Your data is processed under the European data-protection regulation (GDPR).
Your location
Studva only reads your position while the app is open on screen, never in the background: when you set up a session (to suggest nearby places), at the start and end of the session (to check that you are really there), and on the maps, to center them on you. Nothing starts on its own: you always start your timer yourself.
What we keep: a single point per session, the one where it ends. If your session is linked to a place, it is that place’s position; otherwise, it is the exact point where you were when you ended it. We also keep the result of the check (on site or not, spoofed location detected or not). No record of your movements.
These positions are used to verify your sessions and to draw your personal map. Nobody but you can see them. The position of your private places (three at most) is visible only to you as well.
What others see: never your position. Only the place name shown on your posts, for the audience you chose — including the name of a private place. If you appear in leaderboards (on by default), your username and your total time are listed in the leaderboard of every place where you have verified sessions, private sessions included; neither your sessions nor their photos are shown there. And if you turn on “Right now” (off by default), your friends see that you are in a session, with the place name if it is public.
What Studva keeps
- Your account: your email address (to sign in), your username and, if you fill them in, your profile photo, bio and school. Your username, photo, bio and school can be seen by other Studva users.
- Your sessions: duration, subject, place, caption, your two photos, the number of distractions and the audience you chose. By default, a session is visible to your friends; you choose the audience each time you post (only you, your friends or everyone).
- What you write: your direct messages, your messages in clubs, your comments, your Focus reactions, your reports, and what you send us through “Contact us” (along with the app version, your phone type and your language).
- Your social life: your friends, the requests you sent and received, the accounts you blocked, your clubs, your referrals, your challenges and your trophies.
- Your goals, your exams and your private places.
- Technical information: your phone’s notification token and the installed app version, your language, and the notifications you receive in the app (a direct-message notification includes the start of the message). Each time you sign in, our authentication service also records the IP address and the type of device or browser used.
We sell nothing, and nothing is used for advertising.
Your data stays with us
Everything is stored securely on servers in Europe. And we sell nothing!
App blocking (iPhone)
If you choose to block apps during your sessions, you pick them in Apple's own selector. iOS only hands us anonymous identifiers: Studva doesn't know which apps you picked.
That selection stays on your phone — it is never sent to our servers.
Diagnostics: crashes, stability and performance
To fix bugs and keep the app stable and fast, Studva sends technical data to our bug-tracking service (Sentry), whose servers are located in Germany (European Union):
- When the app crashes or an action fails (a rejected request, a post that does not go through): a report with the error and the part of the code involved (our servers’ error message may quote the data that was rejected), the last screens you opened and the addresses of our servers called just before, without their parameters or their content.
- Each time you open the app: a session signal, with the app version, how long it was used and whether a crash or an error occurred. It is used to measure the stability of each version.
- On about one screen in ten you open: performance measurements, with the screen name (for example “feed”, never what it shows), startup and display times, smoothness, and how long exchanges with our servers take. The address called is sent without its parameters; it may contain the technical identifier of a session or a photo, never its content.
- On iPhone: the diagnostics iOS provides about the app freezing and about excessive processor or disk use, with the part of the code involved.
These reports carry technical information about your phone (model, system and app version, language, time zone, connection type, memory, storage and battery state; on Android, the permissions granted to the app), a technical identifier of your phone specific to Studva and, once you are signed in, your account ID and your username. Sentry also infers the city and country you are connecting from, based on your IP address. Never your email, never your GPS location, never your photos, and no screenshots.
This data is used solely to fix bugs and to make the app more stable and faster. Nothing is used for advertising.
The services that help us run
Your data is stored in Europe: your account, your sessions, your photos and your messages are in Germany (European Union), as is diagnostic data. Sign-in emails are sent by a provider established in the European Union. Nothing is stored in the United States.
Three things do travel through American services, because no app can do otherwise:
- Notifications go through Apple or Google to reach your phone, with Expo relaying them. For a direct message, the notification contains the beginning of the message — as on any messaging app. You can turn them off in the settings.
- Maps: your IP address and the area on screen are sent to Mapbox, which provides the base map. Never your account, never your sessions.
- Updates: on launch, the app asks Expo whether a fix is available. It sends its version, its device type and a random installation identifier that is not linked to your account.
No ads, no trackers, nothing sold.
How long we keep your data
As long as your account exists. These are your stats, your history and your records: wiping them after six months would make no sense.
A few exceptions: in a club, only the last 300 messages (pinned messages aside) are kept; sign-in information (IP address, device) is erased when you sign out of the device concerned; diagnostic data (error reports, session signals and performance measurements) is kept for 90 days at most.
When you delete your account, the following are erased immediately: your profile, your sessions and their photos, your positions, your messages, your comments, your friends, the clubs you own, your private places and your sign-in information. Public places you added stay on the map, no longer linked to your account.
You stay in control
In the settings, under Privacy, you choose who sees your sessions and your stats, whether you appear in leaderboards and whether your friends see you “Right now”. Notifications are set under Notifications.
You can delete your account at any time from the settings, under Account. It's immediate.
From your stats screen, you can export your session history (date, duration, subject, place) as a CSV file. This export does not include the rest — messages, friends, photos, positions. To get a copy of those, or for any question about your data, write to us at support@studva.fr.
You can also lodge a complaint with the CNIL, the French data-protection authority (www.cnil.fr).
This website (studva.app)
The site uses no cookies, no trackers and no analytics. Fonts are self-hosted: no request leaves for a third party while you read this page.
Exactly one thing is stored in your browser: the language you pick in the menu at the top, kept in local storage under the key studva_lang. Its only purpose is to show you the site in that language next time. It holds no personal data, is never sent to our servers, and disappears if you clear your browsing data. It therefore counts as strictly necessary and requires no consent.
The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages, which technically logs requests (IP address, requested page) in order to serve the pages and guard against abuse.
The TikTok icon at the bottom of the page is just a link: nothing is loaded from TikTok unless you click it. Once on TikTok, its own privacy policy applies.
